You're reading: Yatsenyuk: September consultations EU-Ukraine-Russia to bring no notable results

No serious results are expected from the next round of trilateral consultations between Ukraine, the European Union and Russia regarding Kyiv signing the association and free trade zone agreement with the EU, Ukrainian Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk said at a briefing in Kyiv on Friday, Aug. 8.

“As to technical consultations between the EU, Ukraine and Russia – the country, which violates all international treaties and obligations – such consultations have already taken place in Brussels. The second round is planned for September. I expect little from them,” the prime minister said.

Ukraine will announce its stance once again, according to which the signing of the association and free trade zone agreement with the EU is a sovereign right of Ukraine and that the free trade zone agreement poses no negative consequences for Russia, Yatsenyuk said.

“This agreement brings no negative economic consequences for Russia, only political ones. And Russia is playing with us politically. I can say once again following the first round of consultations that we have made the right choice – the agreement has been signed and ratified and Ukraine will move forward on the path to European integration,” he said.
