You're reading: Yatseniuk submits draft law on state committee for fighting corruption

Presidential candidate Arseniy Yatseniuk registered onDec. 15in the Verkhovna Rada a draft law on a new state committee for fighting corruption.

The draft law was drawn up in line with the action plan of Yatseniuk on fighting corruption, the press service the Front for Change public initiative reported.

The committee will be formed so as to hold to account for corrupt violations (administrative and criminal), those officials who have so far evaded punishment "because of the absence of political will and solidarity in the law enforcement agencies," according to the explanatory note to the draft law.

The state anti-corruption committee is to have the status of a military formation. It will be subordinate to the president, who is a guarantor of the observance of human rights and freedoms, as well as the top official in the sphere of ensuring national security and the defense of the country.

The main task of the agency is to compose administrative protocols, and conduct searches and pretrial investigations in relation to actions connected with corruption and official crimes. The committee will conduct investigations on high-ranking officials, authorized persons who carry out the functions of the state and local government agencies (for example, Ukraine’s president, ministers, chairmen of regional state administrations, and people’s deputies).
