Leader of the Batkivschyna faction Arseniy Yatseniuk has urged Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych to release former Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko.
“I’m personally asking Viktor Yanukovych to stop playing this game, which shows that he does not want to release Yulia Tymoshenko himself – he wants to hand this responsibility over to either the parliament or the opposition…” Yatseniuk said during a morning plenary meeting of the Verkhovna Rada on Tuesday.
“[Tymoshenko] should not have been put in prison. And now it is necessary [for him] to personally take political responsibility,” he said.
The Cabinet of Ministers, the State Penitentiary Service and the Justice Ministry all have grounds to release Tymoshenko, Yatseniuk said.
