Ukrainian Prime Minister Arseniy Yatseniuk has asked the Energy and Coal Industry Ministry and national joint-stock company Naftogaz Ukrainy to draw up the conditions of a public tender to select investors to operate and modernize the gas transport system (GTS) and underground storage facilities of Ukraine by next week.

“I expect that [the conditions will be presented] next week. I ask to give me the conditions of the public tender to attract investors from the EU and the United States to the management of the gas transport system and underground storage facilities… It’s time to carry out the legislation,” he said at a meeting of the anti-crisis energy center held on Friday.

The premier added that after the selection of investors the Ukrainian gas transport system will be able to provide for the needs of the EU countries in gas transit on the stable basis.

“The position of the Ukrainian government – we categorically oppose South Stream. We welcome the decision of our European partners on blocking the construction of South Stream. Ukraine jointly with the EU will ensure the stable transit. We have all technical possibilities and political will,” he said.
