Ukrainian Prime Minister Arseniy Yatseniuk has asked the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine (NSDC) to consider the problem of free extraction of energy resources at the territories seized by militants.

“We’ll think about the ATO [counterterrorist operation zone]. I think that this is the issue of the NSDC. I will talk to the president, and we’ll put this up [on the agenda] of the meeting of the NSDC. Hundreds of millions of dollars, actually one billion of U.S. dollars, which we will never receive, go to the territories which are under control of Russian militants,” he said at a meeting of the anti-crisis energy center on Friday.

According to information of national joint-stock company Naftogaz Ukrainy, without proper metering and payment the territories under control of militants consumed 27 million cubic meters of gas in September and around 100 million cubic meters in October. By the end of the year, around one billion cubic meters of gas could go to the region, which will lead to Naftogaz Ukrainy’s losses of Hr 6-7 billion.

Ukrtransgaz company has a technical possibility of restricting gas supplies to the above-mentioned territories.
