Ukrainian Prime Minister Arseniy Yatseniuk has spoken in favor of cutting the number of state officials while preserving the current payroll budget, which will increase the salaries of the remaining officials.

“We can cut back a number of state officials and preserve the corresponding payroll budget. The quality of a state official will increase both the quality of the salary and the standards of providing services to Ukrainian citizens form every government agency. This is the question being executed by the government right now,” Yatseniuk said on Ukrainian TV on Aug. 2.

He said that changes to the work of the State Fiscal Service were an example of such optimization.

“And this is taking into account that only 1,500 enterprises are filling the budget by 80 percent. It means that 1,500 inspectors will be enough to control 1,500 enterprises, and the medium [sized] business is better left alone. It’s best for them to have an opportunity to work and develop without the state’s pressure,” Yatseniuk said.
