Ukrainian Prime Minister Arseniy Yatseniuk has instructed Naftogaz Ukrainy Board Chairman Andriy Kobolev to ensure the maximum purchases of natural gas from Europe.

“Mr Kobolev, provide the maximum purchase of gas in the reverse mode,” he said at a meeting of the anti-crisis energy headquarters in Kyiv.

According to him, the main sources of financing for gas purchases should be bank loans and funds collected from debtors.

Earlier, the Ukrainian government decided to form a reserve of natural gas in the amount of $1 billion by attracting loans under state guarantees. It is expected that the funds will be provided by international financial institutions.

As reported, Ukraine in January-July 2015 imported 10.7 billion cubic meters of gas, in particular 6.9 billion cubic meters, or about two-thirds of the total imports were supplies from Europe, and 3.8 billion cubic meters, or about one-third from Russia.
