Arseniy Yatsenyuk should serve as Ukrainian prime minister until the appointment of a new prime minister, UDAR faction leader Vitaliy Kovalchuk has said.

“The UDAR faction believes that Yatsenyuk should perform the duties
of the Ukrainian prime minister prior to the formation of a new
government, which will be formed after the parliamentary elections by a
new coalition,” he told journalists in Kyiv on Friday, July 25.

He said that “the Cabinet of Ministers and Yatsenyuk should properly perform their duties.”

“If they [government members] sabotage their activities, then I think
their actions should be assessed by the Prosecutor General’s Office.”

Kovalchuk said that Yatsenyuk’s statement of resignation was emotional.

He also noted that the prime minister had not written a letter of resignation, but had only verbally spoken about it.

“Today the Verkhovna Rada chairman does not raise the issue of the
consideration of Yatsenyuk’s statement, because there is physically no
statement. There is a public speech by Yatsenyuk, and in accordance with
the Constitution, Yatseniuk had to file the statement,” Kovalchuk said.

He said: “Today, Yatsenyuk is [still] the prime minister.”
