You're reading: Yatsenyuk orders Interior Ministry to punish those responsible for BRSM-Nafta oil depot fire

Ukrainian Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk has ordered the Interior Ministry to punish those responsible for the fire at BRSM-Nafta's oil depot in Vasylkiv district of Kyiv region.

“I order the Interior Ministry to punish [those] persons guilty in the appearance of this emergency situation, first of all the director and engineer of the depot and those who permitted the construction of the depot,” the press service of the State Emergencies Service of Ukraine has reported.

The press service said that Yatseniuk, Secretary of the Ukrainian National Security and Defense Council (NSDC) Oleksandr Turchynov, and Head of the State Emergencies Service Mykola Chechotkin on Thursday inspected part the oil depot which was made safe by rescuers, and assessed the situation as of 9.00 a.m. June 11 as being under control.

Yatseniuk said that the Ukrainian government would provide financial aid to the families of the victims of the fire

Turchynov said that rescuers made every possible effort to control fire, even at the cost of their own lives.

“The emergency situation in Kyiv region raised a lot of problematic issues, in particular, the vicinity of military bases with oil depots. The relevant authorities are to inspect all military bases if they are located close [to the hazardous facilities],” he said.
