If gas is not purchased from Russia industrial enterprises, in particular the chemical industry will have to reduce its consumption, Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk has said at a meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers.

“If we do not buy gas from Russia, we will need to significantly reduce its consumption, especially in the chemical sector and industry,” he said.

Yatseniuk also noted that he does not hope for a successful outcome of the trilateral meeting of Ukraine-Russia-EU because of the intransigence and non-market position of Moscow.

He added that Ukraine is trying to diversify gas supplies to the country, and if it succeeds it could in the future avoid any attempt of blackmail by Russia in terms of energy supply.
