Ukrainian Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk has said that Naftogaz saved $3.4 billion in 2014 on purchases of Russian gas from Russia's OAO Gazprom at a lower price than the one stipulated in the Ukrainian -Russian 2009 gas contracts.

“All in all, war against Ukraine cost Gazprom $6 billion in loss,” he said while opening a Cabinet meeting on April 15.

Additional losses sustained by the Russian gas monopoly are connected with gas purchases by Ukraine from Europe.

Yatsenyuk said that Naftogaz had managed to agree on gas supplies under contracts with large international companies, namely Statoil, Shell, Gas de France, and RWE.
