The creation of a grain pool with Canada and the United States could strengthen Ukraine's positions on the global market, Ukrainian Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk has said.

“Jointly with the United States and Canada we could form a powerful global food and grain pool,” the press service of the government reported, citing the prime minister speaking at a meeting with farmers in Poltava on Oct. 17.

“One of the tasks of the future government and the future Ukrainian authorities is that Ukraine becomes not only a player, but a player which defines the global food policy,” Yatsenyuk said.

As reported, the previous government of President Viktor Yanukovych considered the possibility of Ukraine’s participation in the Black Sea grain pool with Russia and Kazakhstan, the initiator of the creation of which was Russia. However, the concrete decision was not made.
