The political section of the Association Agreement between Ukraine and the European Union will be signed by March 21, 2014, Ukrainian Prime Minister Arseniy Yatseniuk says.

“I’ve just talked to President of the European Council Mr. [Herman] Van Rompuy. He said that the European Union member countries are ready to sign the political section of the Association Agreement between Ukraine and the European Union at a summit on March 21,” Yatseniuk said in a video address shown at the Shuster Live program on Friday evening.

The economic part of the agreement will also be signed, but it will happen later and after further consultations, Yatseniuk said.

Yatseniuk said that the EU had announced readiness to consider the adoption of a unilateral decision on letting Ukrainian-made goods onto its market, which will additionally bring $400 million to the Ukrainian economy and Ukrainian businesses.

“There were some fears that the signing of the economic section of the agreement could have negative consequences for businesses located in the east [of Ukraine] and for the entrepreneurs that have close relations with Russia. That is why we’ve taken a well-considered decision to hold further consultations before the signing of the economic section of the agreement,” he said.

Yatseniuk expressed hope that Russia would fulfill its bilateral obligations and would not ban Ukrainian exports.
