Ukrainian President Viktor Yuschenko has submitted a presentation to the parliament on the appointment of Valentyn Nalyvaichenko as a head of the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU).

Verkhovna Rada Chairmen Volodymyr Lytvyn said this at a parliament meeting on Thursday.

The speaker said that prior to putting this issue to the vote, MPs should invite the candidate to the parliament to hear a report.

He said that they should learn whether Nalyvaichenko has already returned from a working trip.

Nalyvaichenko has been working as SBU acting head since December 22 2006, after the parliament dismissed the then SBU head Ihor Drizhchany.

Yuschenko has previously requested that parliament appoint Nalyvaichenko as SBU head, on December 19, 2007.
