Russian Ambassador to Ukraine Mikhail Zurabov has said that the extension of the lease on the Russian Black Sea Fleet base in Crimea will promote economic growth on the peninsula.

He said this in Simferopol on Wednesday after meeting with Crimean Parliament Speaker Volodymyr Kostiantynov.

"The extension of the Russian Black Sea Fleet’s presence in Sevastopol will make quite a difference to the question of the development of the facilities that are traditionally serviced by the fleet," Zurabov said.

He recalled that the issue concerned the ship repair base and infrastructure that will ensure the stable functioning of the fleet, including the supply of material and technical resources and products for the fleet.

"We are carefully studying this question, and I think that the proposals to be formulated will help create additional jobs in the republic and, of course, promote a serious economic growth in Crimea," the ambassador said.
