Ukrainian Prime Minister Mykola Azarov has said that extremists should not be allowed to damage the reputation of Lviv as a hospitable city.

"I am confident that Lviv is the pride of Ukraine and a wonderful hospitable city, and extremists should not be allowed to ruin its reputation," he said at a government meeting on Wednesday.

Azarov said that the government should prevent any criminal actions related to the violation of human rights.

"I don’t agree and I will never agree that our citizens cannot feel safe, wherever they are," he said.

He said he was satisfied with how Victory Day celebrations generally took place in Ukraine.

"The celebration showed that Ukrainian society generally rejects splitting attempts to distort the great feat of our people during the Second World War," Azarov said.
