Belarusian Deputy Foreign Minister Yelena Kupchina met with head of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe Office for Democratic Institutions of Human Rights (OSCE ODIHR) election monitoring mission to Belarus Jacques Faure in Minsk on Sept. 2, the Belarusian Foreign Ministry said.

Kupchina and Faure discussed a number of issues related to the organization of international monitoring of the upcoming presidential elections in Belarus.

The OSCE mission led by Faure officially started monitoring presidential elections in Belarus on Aug. 26. Over 40 OSCE monitors are currently working in the country. The ODIHR will request the sending of another 400 short-term monitors to the country on election day.

The OSCE said its monitoring mission would analyze the elections for their compliance with Belarus’s obligations within the OSCE framework, other international obligations, democratic election standards, and national law.

A statement on the mission’s preliminary conclusions will be made public the next day following the elections. A final report on the monitoring of the entire election process will be published about two months after the elections.

The presidential elections in Belarus are scheduled for Oct. 11, 2015.
