Brazil wants to involve Ukraine in implementing programs for the modernization of the Brazilian Navy, the press service of the Ukroboronprom State Concern has told Interfax-Ukraine.

The prospects and the format of possible cooperation were discussed
during recent talks held in Kyiv between Head of the Ukroboronprom State
Concern Serhiy Hromov and a delegation of the Brazilian Navy led by the
coordinator of the Brazilian Navy modernization program, Rear Admiral
Petronio Augusto.

During the negotiations, the Brazilian side voiced its interest in
involving Ukraine’s Research and Design Center of Shipbuilding
(Mykolaiv) in a project to create a Brazilian corvette ship, and
stressed the possibility of signing an agreement with Ukraine on this
issue.

In addition, the Brazilians were interested in the experience and
capabilities of the Kherson-based Pallada State Plant in dock
construction. Brazil wants to teach its specialist technologies on the
construction of piers and floating docks for the stationing and repair
of a nuclear submarine, the construction of which is planned by the
Brazilian government.

The Brazilian side also wants to establish cooperation with a
monopoly company on the CIS market in the designing and production of
gas turbines for warships – State Enterprise Gas Turbine Scientific
Production Complex Zorya-Mashproekt (Mykolaiv).

Hromov said that Latin America is seen in Ukraine as a promising market for the products of the domestic defense industry.

“It’s extremely important for us to develop relations with a regional leader – Brazil,” he said.

Hromov said that Ukroboronprom had set the goal of soon doubling
exports of products of the concern’s enterprises to this region.

Ukraine and Brazil are currently preparing to sign a bilateral agreement in the defense sector.
