You're reading: Cameron says UK forces in action over Libya

British submarines launched Tomahawk missiles at Libyan air defense targets Saturday, officials said, as Prime Minister David Cameron confirmed that British forces are in action over Libya.

The Ministry of Defense declined to say how many missiles were fired or where the submarines were located.

Cameron said that launching a military action against Libya is "necessary, legal and right." Speaking after chairing an emergency meeting with senior government officials in his office in Downing Street, the leader said his thoughts are with British service personnel who are risking their lives to save others.

Cameron earlier said that Royal Air Force Typhoon and Tornado fighter jets would be sent to help enforce the no-fly zone over Libya. It is not immediately clear how many planes are involved or where they are located.
