CAIRO (AP) — An Egyptian court has ordered the name of ousted President Hosni Mubarak and his wife Suzanne removed from all public facilities and institutions — the latest step in dismantling the legacy of the former leader's 29 years in power.

Thursday’s ruling will affect hundreds, perhaps even thousands, of subway stations, schools, streets, squares and libraries across the nation that bore the name of the former leader or his wife over the years.

Mubarak stepped down on Feb. 11 in the face of a popular uprising.

Egypt’s top prosecutor ordered him and his two sons detained last week on allegations of corruption and the deadly shooting of protesters.

The 82-year-old Mubarak is detained under guard at a hospital in the Red Sea resort of Sharm el-Sheikh.
