Seventy-six Ukrainian citizens are to be evacuated from Syria soon, according to the Foreign Ministry of Ukraine.

“According to the Embassy of Ukraine in Syria, some 76 citizens of Ukraine will return home from this country soon,” the spokesman for the Foreign Ministry of Ukraine, Oleksandr Dykusarov, said in Kyiv on Tuesday.

He specified that Ukrainians will be evacuated with the assistance of the International Organization for Migration (IOM).

In particular, on August 15 five Ukrainian will be transported to Ukraine, 15 more Ukrainian citizens will return on August 27, and 55 Ukrainians will be evacuated later.

Dykusarov said that 70-80 Ukrainians have requested for evacuation to Ukraine, as of today, and they will be transported with the assistance of the IOM.

He added that the number of those willing to return to Ukraine changes from time to time depending on the situation in regions of Syria. In particular, the situation in Damask was stable in recent days, while the situation in Aleppo has become worse.

Ukraine’s diplomatic mission in Syria keeps in touch with 450 Ukrainians in Syria, 380 of them are in Damask and some 70 in Aleppo.
