CAIRO (AP) — Libya's state news agency says long-time ruler Moammar Gadhafi has toured the capital Tripoli, trying to rally loyalists amid widening anti-government protests.
U.S.-based Human Rights Watch says 24 people were killed in clashes between protesters and pro-government forces Wednesday and Feb.17. Protests have been reported in several cities across Libya.
More demonstrations were expected Friday, and witnesses say protesters camped out in a central area of the eastern port city in Benghazi.
The state news agency JANA says that Gadhafi’s convoy toured Tripoli late Thursday to rally support. A pro-Gadhafi online paper says a son of Gadhafi has visited security forces in eastern region where many of the protests took place to offer financial help.
