You're reading: NATO says Stoltenberg’s statement on Turkey security was wrongly translated

Brussels - NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg's statement about the Alliance's plans to ensure Turkey security was misquoted, a source in the NATO headquarters in Brussels told Interfax.

Some media wrongly reported that that NATO allegedly plans to send land forces to Turkey, if this becomes necessary, to defend Turkey’s security, he said.

In actual fact, the secretary general did not talk about land forces and only meant the Patriot missile batteries, already located in Turkey and intended to be used for strengthening Turkey’s air defense, he said.

Some media, NATO said, quoted an excerpt from Stoltenberg’s speech in Poland which had been wrongly translated.
