MONACO — The Polish city of Sopot has won the right to host the 2014 world indoor athletics championships.

The IAAF says that, once budgetary guarantees are approved, Sopot will be able to organize the sports main winter event after Zagreb, Croatia, had withdrawn because of insufficient funding. It will be held in Istanbul, Turkey, next March.

In other decisions, the IAAF has awarded the 2014 world junior championships to Eugene, Oregon. Copenhagen, Denmark, will host the world half-marathon championships the same year.
