You're reading: Russian deputy foreign minister discusses restoration of Russian-French economic ties in Paris

MOSCOW - Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Alexei Meshkov had several meetings during a working visit to Paris on March 26-27 to discuss the development of Russian-French relations.

“Special significance during the consultations was attached to the entire set of Russian-French relations. Importance of continuing to promote a political dialogue between Moscow and Paris and restoring economic ties was emphasized,” the Foreign Ministry said in a statement on Friday.

“In exchanging opinions on the situation in Ukraine and prospects of Russia’s relations with the EU, NATO and the OSCE, both parties expressed their interest in overcoming the current difficult period in international relations as soon as possible and the desire to intensify Russian-French interaction on international and European affairs,” it said.

Meshkov took part in a general assembly of the French-Russian Dialogue Association on March 26 and in bilateral ministerial consultations with French Foreign Ministry’s Continental Europe Department Director Eric Fournier on March 27. Meshkov also had conversations with special governmental representative on relations with Russia Jean-Pierre Chevenement and head of the National Assembly’s Foreign Affairs Committee Elisabeth Guigou.
