You're reading: Serbia rejects policy of anti-Russian sanctions

Moscow  - Serbia will never impose sanctions on Russia, Serbian National Assembly Speaker Maja Gojkovic said.

“Let me underline that our strategic decision [to join the EU] is not and will not be an impediment to further development of fraternal relations with Russia. Serbia will never impose sanctions on Russia because sanctions have never done any good to anyone and cannot help resolve any problems,” Gojkovic told State Duma deputies in Moscow on Dec.22.

“We know well that sanctions always harm average people first of all,” the National Assembly speaker stated.

“We also know that dialogue is the only thing needed for the resolution of problems,” Gojkovic added.

The people of Serbia support the country’s accession to the European Union, she added. “There is consensus in the Serbian parliament too,” she said.

Gojkovic called for Russian investments in the Serbian economy.
