MADRID (AP) — Spain is tightening security at its embassies in Pakistan, Afghanistan, North Africa and the Sahel region of Africa following Osama bin Laden's killing.

Interior Minister Alfredo Perez Rubalcaba said Spanish firms and aid workers operating in these regions will be advised to do the same.

He made the announcement to reporters Tuesday after a meeting to discuss security in Spain after bin Laden’s death.

Perez Rubalcaba stressed the overall terrorism alert level will not be changed. It is now at the third-highest on a scale of eight levels.

Spain was hit by an Islamic terror attack that killed 191 people and wounded nearly 2,000 in 2004.

But officials say there is no evidence al-Qaida financed or ordered the massacre on the Madrid commuter rail system.
