You're reading: Ten dead after plunges off ravine in Moldova

CHISINAU, Moldova — Police say that that 10 people have died in Moldova after a bus skidded of the road and plunged into a ravine in the north of the country.

Police said in a statement that the bus driver failed to
navigate a bend as the bus was traveling through a village some 100
kilometers (60 miles) north of the capital early Thursday, and fell into
a 10-meter (33 feet) ravine.

Police say another 35 passengers were on board, and some were hospitalized with serious injuries in the nearby town of Ungheni.

Authorities
are examining the bus, a Mercedes-Benz model manufactured in 1989.
Police and the Interior Ministry are investigating the cause of the
accident.
