(AP) Authorities have detained a suspect in connection with last weekend’s nearly simultaneous bombings at two supermarkets in eastern Ukraine that injured 14 people, regional police said Wednesday.

The suspect, whom police refused to identify, was detained in a joint operation late Tuesday between criminal investigators and the State Security Service, the Kharkiv branch of Ukraine’s Interior Ministry said.

Ihor Rebeshko, head of the Kharkiv interior ministry, planned to hold a news conference later Wednesday to announce more details.

The two explosions hit nearby supermarkets within minutes of each other in the eastern city of Kharkiv Saturday, injuring 14 people. Police said the explosions were caused by homemade bombs planted in the lockers where customers store packages.

The motive behind the blasts, which occurred on a busy shopping day on the eve of Orthodox Christian Easter, was not immediately clear.

Business disputes have occasionally turned violent in Ukraine. News reports said that at least one of the supermarkets targeted had been undercutting competitors with lower prices.
