President and first lady host a diplomatic reception
Jan 15, 2010 at 15:01
President Victor Yushchenko and his wife Kateryna Yushchenko held a traditional annual reception for the diplomatic corps on Jan. 14. This is likely to be the last reception hosted by Yushchenko, who is running for re-election on Jan. 17 but whose popular support had dwindled in five years of his presidency.
The president talked about the country’s foreign policy during the reception, pointing out that it will remain “unchanged.”
"Ukraine's foreign policy will remain unchanged. First of all I mean the European and Euro-Atlantic integration. I'm convinced that after overcoming the consequences of the economic recession, Ukraine will again become one of the European leaders in development of national economy and foreign direct investment ", Yushchenko said in his speech.
He also said that Ukraine will continue to be committed to combating international terrorism and crime, as well as illicit arms and drug trafficking.
He expressed his intentions to actively fill relations between Ukraine and the United States with practical content, called for the resumption of constructive partnership with Russia and reminded that Ukraine has many partners in all parts of the world, who are no less important for our state than Europe or North America.
