Kyiv Post ‘Best of Kyiv’contest struck many chords
Feb 4, 2010 at 22:19
They say that successful people are those who work hard and play hard. The Best of Kyiv ceremony was all about that: awarding those companies which delivered the most to their clients with the best party ever.
Over 200 people gathered in the ballroom of Kyiv’s Hyatt Regency hotel on Jan 28 to toast the winners in 22 business categories – from insurance companies to best airlines. It was the ninth year of the Kyiv Post contest, which drew together 115 companies. Newly added categories – the Spirit of Kyiv and the Business Person of the Year – helped to single out personalities who superseded all others in their effort to make Ukraine a better place. Head of Lion’s Club, Curtis ‘B.J.’ Bjelajac, was the spirit of charity events in 2009. Philippe D’Have of L’Oreal worked hard to put a smile on women’s faces with a better choice of health and beauty products despite a hard recession year. The event was an excellent networking opportunity, and the food and drink helped to make it an even friendlier bonding experience. While serving wine, one of the waitresses felt emotional and decided to sing to the guests saying it was her last night at work. The manager interrupted her good intention, however, saying her voice was nature’s mistake. As he was escorting her out, some of the diners felt sorry for the girl and were about to boo the manager. The whole scheme turned out to be part of the entertainment program, when the waitress came back to show off her prime soprano, joined by the manager and another guest. The effect of this little act was like switching between a cold and hot shower in a matter of seconds. The best of the business community attended the event. Mohammad Zahoor, owner of ISTIl Group and the Kyiv Post’s publisher, with his wife, singer Kamaliya, were among the guests. (Photos by Oleksiy Boyko and Natalia Kravchuk)
