Opposition rally in front of the parliament

In the morning of Sept. 7 several thousand supporters of Ukraine’s opposition gathered outside of the parliament building to protest several policies of President Viktor Yanukovych and his government, particularly the increase of gas and utility rates for households. At the other side of the building about 1,000 people gathered to support the ruling Party of Regions. The parliament, which reconvened for the autumn session on that day, failed to support the bills drafted by the opposition banning increases of utility prices. (Oleksiy Boyko)
