The 34th annual Ukrainian Fashion Week is set to begin on March 14.
A total of 38 runway shows featuring 46 designers will be held during the 34th Ukrainian Fashion Week on March 14-20. Most of the shows will take place at the Mystetskiy Arsenal museum (10-12 Lavrska St.).
“Ukraine is a unique country whose citizens are proud and talented at the same time. We have already shown the world how courageous Ukrainians are and now it’s time to show Ukrainian talents,” chairman of the organizing committee of Ukrainian Fashion Week Irina Danylevska said at a press conference on March 11 in Kyiv.
Danylevska emphasized how difficult it was for designers to work on the collections in the politically charged atmosphere of the last months. One of the prominent designers and regular UFW participants Anna Bublik has canceled her show due to the protests. Bublik could not prepare the collection properly because her office on Liuteranska Street was under threat during the clashes that took place in February.
Designers from Georgia and UK cancelled their shows in Kyiv too, but promised to present their collections in October. Other parties that traditionally take place during the fashion week were cancelled as well this year.
“It is not a proper time to relax and start celebrating,” Danylevska said.
According to one of the UFW founders Oleksandr Sokolovskiy, most Ukrainian fashion designers supported EuroMaidan.
He also confirmed that some of the collections to be shown will highlight EuroMaidan’s influence on this year’s designs.
