Beauty pageant in Batumi, Georgia, has been marked by a scandal surrounding Miss Georgia crowned on Oct. 1. After the celebrations, brunette Janet Kerdikoshvili has allegedly turned out to have a Russian citizenship.

According to Georgian media, the 19-year-old’s title may get annulled and the crown confiscated.

An immediate investigation by Georgia’s Ministry of Justice revealed that Kerdikoshvili became a Russian citizen in 2010, which automatically should have stripped her of her Georgian passport and the rights to compete in the pageant.

Moreover, Kerdikoshvili allegedly moved to Saint-Petersburg and doesn’t maintain a permanent address in Georgia any more.

In comments to Lenta.ru, however, the young woman denied claims that she is Russian. The pageant’s organizers also said that Kerdikoshvili’s documents and citizenship were in order.

The scandal must get resolved before Oct. 19 for Georgia to be able to take part in Miss World contest in the United Kingdom.
