You're reading: Pancakes are coming to Pirogovo

You know that winter is truly over when Maslyana ads pop up around.

An ancient pagan day celebrating the return of warmth and the sun, it remains popular in modern days – mainly for a chance to eat tasty pancakes that accompany the holiday.

On Feb. 25 and 26, the famous outdoor museum Pirogovo and Mamayeva Sloboda ethnic museum both offer you pancakes, as well as a chance to watch the old ceremonies and traditions associated with this say.

In ancient Ukraine, it had many other names, including Kolodiy and Maslyana.

Traditional crafts will be on sale, and the day will end with the burning of Kosturbatyi Did, which represents the winter.
