 War Horse

An adaptation of the British novel, Steven Spielberg’s 2011 drama “War Horse” was nominated for six Academy Awards in 2012 and received two Golden Globe nominations. The screening of the film will be in English with English subtitles. The audience will be provided with useful vocabulary before the movie. After the screening, everyone is invited to stay for a discussion.

Final Four

This weekend the nation will find out the winner of the Ukraine Basketball Cup. The four teams competing for bragging rights as the top squad are Budivelnyk (Kyiv), Dniproazot (Dniprodzerzhynsk), Hoverla (Uzhhorod) and Donetsk (Donetsk). Pershiy Natsionalniy (First Channel) TV Channel will broadcast the games.

National Academic Symphonic Band of Ukraine

In honor of Valentine’s Day, the National Academic Symphonic Band will present their most romantic program. The conductor of the night is Oleksiy Roshchak. His band will play the most famous works of Ennio Morricone, Carlos Gardel and Jean Michel Jarre, among many others. Soloists include Valentyna Matiushenko (singer), Rostyslav Zaytsev (saxophone) and Maria Zubkova (singer).

Bonjour Monsieur Shlomi

“Bonjour Monsieur Shlomi” is a 2003 drama written and directed by Shemi Zarhin. The movie tells the story of a boy who is tasked with caring for everyone in his life, save for himself. Trying too hard to be invisible at school, Shlomi can’t escape the eyes of his new math teacher, who takes a great interest in his talents. The movie will be screened in Hebrew with Russian subtitles.

Sarah Brightman in concert

Sarah Brightman is bringing her show “Dreamchaser” to Kyiv. In her 30 years of musical experience, Brightman has sold more than 30 million albums worldwide and is known for starring as Christine in the original cast of the Andrew Lloyd Webber’s “The Phantom of the Opera.” The album “Dreamchaser” is her 11th and will be released in the United Kingdom in April 2013. It got a five-star rating from Polari Magazine.

Global Village

The multicultural Festival Global Village returns to Kyiv once again, and its representatives from seven countries are ready and eager to share their cultural peculiarities with Kyivans. The festival promotes cultural awareness among the youth by providing master-classes, photo installations, workshops and food tastings from different cultures and cuisines.
