Gothic O.Children

British post-punk and gothic-rock band O.Children is set to debut in Ukraine. Founded in 2009, O.Children already has a loyal fan base. The quartet released two studio albums in the last four years and an album of cover songs.

DakhaBrakha

This is one of the most eccentric Ukrainian bands whose performance style is unique and easily recognized. Fusing Ukrainian folk music with  Arabic, Indian, and African instruments, every show this band puts on is one of a kind. Founded in 2004, DakhaBrakha has won over many hearts in Ukraine and all over the world.

Movies from Denmark

Kyiv Movie Theater is screening contemporary Danish movies. Ostracized teacher drama “The Hunt” (2012) tells a story of 40-year old Lucas, who is trying to get his life together after a divorce. The movie was nominated for best foreign language film at this year’s Golden Globe and Academy Awards. The film festival’s program will also include the movies “Skytenn” (2013), “A Royal Affair” (2012), “The Passion of Marie” (2012), and “A Hijacking” (2012). All of the films are screened in Danish with Ukrainian subtitles.

Thirty Seconds to Mars

One of the most anticipated concerts in Kyiv this year is finally taking place. Recent Oscar winner Jared Leto is bringing his band to Ukraine for the second time. Thirty Seconds to Mars is touring the world with their fourth album “Love, Lust, Faith + Dreams”. Performing in the genres of alternative, indie, experimental and electronic rock, the group knows how to put on a show and have sold out in many venues. In Kyiv, the concert venue was changed due to the mass demands of Ukrainian fans. The show will be held in Palats Sportu instead of the previously advertised Stereo Plaza.

Shevchenko celebrations

Shevchenko Mania

Celebrating Ukraine’s most famous literary bard of all time, Mystetskyi Arsenal has put together an art project. Shevchenko Mania marks the 200th anniversary of Taras Shevchenko’s birth with an exhibition of some 50 of his paintings that date back to the 1830–1850s. It was also feature various poetry recitals and video installations. Shevchenko Mania is an invitation to look at the artist’s life and art beyond what textbooks say.

Open air celebration in Pyrohovo

Pyrohovo Museum will hold a celebration to commemorate 200 years since the birth of Taras Shevchenko. The event starts with a mass at the Church of St. Michael the Archangel and continues with religious procession from the church to the house built by Shevchenko’s uncle in 19th century and brought to Pirogovo from a village in Cherkasy Oblast.

Film festival “Shevchenko 200”

Zhovten Cinema scheduled screenings of four Ukrainian feature films about Taras Shevchenko. The films were produced in Ukraine in early and middle 20th century. One of them “Taras Shevchenko” (1926) is the first biopic about Shevchenko ever made. The films are screened in Ukrainian.

Shevchenko lecture

Ukraine’s journalist and TV host Yuriy Makarov will hold a lecture dedicated to Taras Shevchenko as political activist, artist and prophet.
