Jesse Cook

The Canadian guitar virtuoso is playing one show in Ukraine.  Famous for his interpretation of flamenco music, ethno jazz and fusion, the artist has released eight studio albums. Cook received eleven nominations for Canadian music JUNO Awards, earning a win in a Best Instrumental Album category for his 2001 album “Free Fall”.

Yachting Sport Open Championship

It has become tradition to hold a Yachting Championship on the Day of Kyiv, celebrated on the last weekend of May. Fans of yachting sport will gather their crews on a pier near Poshtova Square in the Podil. Some of the best Ukrainian and foreign yachtsmen will take part in the competition, including Olympic medalists.

Ostrov Festival

Ostrov Festival is the most popular celebrations of electronic music in Ukraine. Taking place on Kyiv’s Trukhaniv Island in the Dnipro River, the shows last two and a half days in a non-stop regime. Thousands of people are expected to hear such top representatives of electronic music as Ricardo Villalobos, Art Department, and Sonja Mooner.

Kimono exhibition

The “Secrets of Japanese Patterns” exhibition aims to present the ancient traditions and cultural treasures of Japan. The entrance on Opening Day on May 31 will be free. All visitors will have the opportunity to take part in various master-classes on Japanese art and craft.

Echo of ‘86’ Film Festival in Kyiv

Film Festival “86” took place in the city of Slavutych, Kyiv Oblast, this April, and featured movies about cities. The best of this celluloid will be finally screened in Kyiv, including films about Kyiv, Alchevsk (Donetsk Oblast), Athens, and New York. All of the movies were produced in 2012-2014 by directors from the U.S. and Europe. For the schedule go to: www.86.org.ua/en/schedule.

Bob Dylan’s Birthday Party

Kyiv band Nicholas Tym will perform hits of legendary musician and cultural icon Bob Dylan in a tribute concert on May 31. Dylan has sold more than 100 million records worldwide, making him one of the best-selling artists of all time. Dylan was born on May 24, so the party will be a little late.

Mireille Mathieu

One of the greatest French chanteuses, Mireille Mathieu will indeed perform on the stage of the Palats Ukraina concert hall after her March 6 performance date was cancelled. Talented and beautiful, 67-year old Mathieu has fans all over the world, and Kyiv is no exception. Mathieu will perform the legendary songs of another French chanteuse, Edith Piaf, as well as her own hits.
