Kyiv Market Festival

For the fifth time, the annual Kyiv Market Festival will bring together artists of all genres to raise money for charity. The event will include a mixture of  street-food vendors, live music and much, much more. Distracted parents can drop their children off at the Kids Market, young painters area, Art Market, young writers area  or Book Market. The festival will even have a homemade décor Home Market. There is something for everyone at the Kyiv Market Festival, and remember – it’s for charity.

Jan Fabre Exhibit

Jan Fabre has been called Belgium’s most scandalous artist, designer, playwright, stage director, and choreographer, so it’s a surprise that this will his first exhibition in Kyiv. Famous for his majestic decoration of the ceiling of the Royal Palace in Brussels with 1.6 million jewel-scarab wings, Jan Fabre wrought havoc in the world of art with paintings made from blood, sperm and the ashes of cash. Two collections – “Tribute to Hieronymus Bosch in the Congo” and “Tribute to the Belgian Congo” – will be shown to those wishing to understand the essence of Fabre’s art.

Manhattan Short Film Festival

Film buffs with short attentions spans once again can get excited about this year’s Manhattan Short Film Festival. Every year the projectors light up simultaneously in dozens of countries around the globe. This year, 10 short films from The Netherlands, U.S., United Kingdom, Australia, Norway, France, Mexico, and Germany were picked to compete. The winner will be chosen festival goers. Listen to Israel! music festival

The international festival of Jewish music Listen to Israel! is a great opportunity to dive into Israeli history and culture, if not to establish an emotional connection with one of the thousands of national Jewish melodies played at the festival. On the playbill is the respected American folk music group Klezmeranians Ensemble, original songs performed by Nataliya Shpigelman and classical compositions from the musical Fiddler on the Roof.

Lords of Sound

For those addicted to cinematography and orchestral rock music, the performance of the symforock orchestra Lords of the Sound should be a must-see event. The soundtracks from the movies “Twilight,” “The Great Gatsby,” “Star Wars,” “Gladiator,” “Pirates of the Caribbean,” “Kill Bill,” and “Harry Potter” plus a few other hit films will be performed in interpretations yet never heard. The show is a mysterious blend of symphonic and rock music, a rarity in this part of the world.

Black and White Jazz

Legendary blues master B. B. King is being brought to Kyiv – in spirit – by the Kyiv Art Ensemble through its show Black and White Jazz. On guitar will be Serhiy Ovsyanykov, drums – Alex Fantayev, contrabass – Valentyn Korniyenko, and piano – Volodymyr Solyanyk, all accompanied by the magnificent vocals of Pylyp Belyayev.
