The fast approaching autumn caught Ukrainians by surprise: the transformation between summer and a golden fall seemed to occur overnight, with warm, sunny days turning to cold, windy ones. Put away till next year are light jackets, replaced by bulkier coats and scarves.

There are
millions of methods that can be employed to stay warm in weather like this, but among the most fun
may be drinking. Not necessarily hard liquor, mind you, but a pleasant night out with friends for mulled wine in downtown Kyiv. Check out these places for a glass of the hot, spiced drink.

illicium and honey. Hr 30 for 200 ml.

with mulled wine – Ukrainian style. For just Hr 15 you get 200 ml of a simple drink

But if the
sweatpants are too cozy and the blanket is way too soft to leave behind, fear not, for making mulled wine
at home is rather easy.

For making
honey mulled wine you will need: a bottle of red wine, honey, cinnamon, cloves.
All you need to do is cover 10 table spoons of honey with the bottle of wine,
add cinnamon, cloves and illicium. Warm the ingredients on low heat and stir
constantly. Turn it off right before boiling. Mulled wine is ready. One can add
brandy, orange, lemon, any other spice upon taste.

Enjoy and
stay warm.
