Ex-Beatle and one the most highlypaid musicians in the world Paul McCartney will come to Kyiv June 14 to play a charitable concert on Maidan Nezalezhnosti. Like last year’s Elton John performance the concert is being organized by the fund of Ukrainian businessman and mercenary Victor Pinchuk.
It will be not only the first gig of Sir Paul in the capital of Ukraine, but his first solo concert after several year haitus. According to Pinchuk, McCartney himself picked the name for the show – “Independence Concert.” Addressing Ukrainian audiences, McCartney said that he was excited about the upcoming show, promised a great evening and expressed hope that it will be an unforgettable show for all of Ukraine.
The charitable concert will offer free admission to all goers. It promises to be a nationwide performance, as the Pinchuk Fund plans to arrange several big screen in Ukraine’s big cities broadcasting the Kyiv show live. In Kyiv the concert will be shown on Noviy Kanal. Because the concert is nonprofit, commercials will not interrupt the broadcast.
Apart from his show, McCartney will also exhibit about 40 of his paintings in Kyiv. He will himself appear at the opening of the exhibition at PinhcukArtCentre.
While the exact schedule of McCartney’s stay in Kyiv is yet unknown, it is possible that he will stay for a day after the concert, which is unusual.
We can surely expect a professionally organized show, especially judging by the Elton John’s high energy gig.
By coincidence the day of the Kyiv concert will mark 40th anniversary of the day the Beatles song “Back to the USSR” was written, featuring the famous line: “Ukraine girls really knock me out!”
