Yaroslav DebelyiThe first look at an ordinary student dorm brings nothing but disappointment, especially if you are a freshman who has left a comfortable parents’ home for studying, say, in Kyiv. The prospects of sharing a room with three other students, using a common kitchen and bathroom might seem a rather frustrating option, but there are definitely things that eventually compensate for the dorms’ poor facilities.
First of all, people. One can find all kinds of music addicts, young poets and even computer hackers among fellow neighbors. Such a mixture of bright personalities, so far free from the limiting burdens of maturity, makes life in a dormitory indeed an exciting experience.
Another reason to like dormitory is for its fun that never ends. Crazy parties, performances of dorm-born bands and tangled love stories make student dorms an embodiment of student life attractions.
With fun making such a great part of students’ lives in dormitories, one only can wonder when and how they manage to study. In fact, they do, which partly explains the ever-burning light in dorm windows.
