You're reading: Man of Steel hits screens in Kyiv

“Man of Steel,” a film re-telling the story of Superman, a popular DC comics superhero, was one of the most anticipated movies of this summer. Made by Zack Snyder (the director of “300”) and Christopher Nolan (The Dark Knight trilogy), it really hits you with the heady mix of action, special effects, touching scenes and professionally designed costumes.

In
superhero movies it’s always hard to find balance between wild
action scenes and the dramatic evolution of the
main
characters. In “Man of Steel” the
producers
emphasize
the
latter, according
a lot
of screen time to Clark Kent’s (also named Kal-El, Superman’s
alter ego) troubles of
finding his place in on Earth.

With
fantastic
strength, the
ability
to fly and cast burning rays with
his
eyes, Krypton-born Kent carries a gift of superb humanity. His
willingness to help people gets him into trouble, with
his
superpowers frighting
the
victims more than the actual disasters
they are
being saved
from. Trying to save people without uncovering his true nature
becomes Superman’s main battle.

Throughout
the film Kent’s foster-father, played by Kevin Costner, struggles
to protect Kent from society, which, he says, won’t accept him as
he is.
That position confronts what Superman remembers of his birth father
from Krypton, played
by Russell Crowe. He
was sure Kent was to become a hero and a leader of the
human
race, and sent him to Earth to achieve just
that. And
that’s just the beginning of his problems…

Kent
was played by British actor Henry Cavill, 30, best known for
picturing Charles Brandon in television historical drama “The
Tudor”s and Theseus in “Immortals” (2011). In “Man of Steel.”
Cavill pictures a canonical Superman, who looks exactly like everyone
remembers him from the
DC comics. Also, the tight costume fits him quite well.

Hardly
stealing a spotlight from Superman, the
movie’s
villain General Zod is an interesting character, not just
the usual
cardboard villain. He changes Kent’s life a lot.

And
don’t worry about the love part. In the movie, Superman once again
meets his main love interest from comics and previous screen
versions, the
journalist Lois Lane, played by Amy Adams.

Visually, the film combines peaceful country scenes and thrilling special effects. Both the colours and execution is stunning. The
film’s
aliens technologies, flying ships, and
thrilling
fights are even more enjoyable when seen in 3D.
