You're reading: Vrubel in Kyiv

In honor of the 155th anniversary from birth of the great Russian artist Mikhail Vrubel, the exhibition “Vrubel and Kyiv” will display the artist’s greatest masterpieces in Kyiv.

Nearly 120 works of painting, graphic art and sculpture portray multiple dimensions of the artist’s career.

The exposition is divided into four thematic parts: details, people, flowers, and gods, each drawing on parallels between material and spiritual worlds.

When Vrubel was 28, he spent five years in Kyiv (1884-1889) – time he apparently looked upon as one of the most fruitful in becoming one of the foundational leaders of Russian modern art.

Opening Fri, Oct. 7, Kyiv National Museum of Russian Art, 234-6218, 9 Tereshchenkivska St., metro Ploshcha Lva Tolstogo, tickets: Hr 5-30.
