You're reading: A trance with Robert Miles

First there was “Children."

Yes, it’s pretty unusual, but not for the trance composer Robert Miles, who conquered the world in the 1990s with an electronic hit with that name. It topped international charts and earned him several prestigious music awards.

But “Children” were only the beginning.

Miles traveled to the Mecca of dance music–Ibiza in search of new sounds and mixes. While there he was inspired to work in new styles, such as ambient music and down-tempo and began to combine trance, chill-out and trip-hop. He even invented his own style called dream house. The style reached its peak of popularity in the late 1990s. It’s a lovely soft music style which appeals to many.

Born of Italian immigrants in Switzerland, Miles initially was trained in piano, but later worked as a DJ in some Italian clubs. Ever industrious, he then used his savings to establish his own recording studio and a pirate radio station. The rest is history.

For the first time, Miles is paying a visit to Kyiv on a tour for his freshly recorded album «Thi1rt3en». Apart from the familiar electronic rhythms, you can expect the virtuoso piano and guitar themes, drums and the shades of the blues that Miles has always favored.
