You're reading: Moldovan ethno hardcore

Zdob si Zdub, a band from Moldova playing an explosive mix of ethno punk, ska and hardcore, will be playing in Kyiv on May 18.

Zdob si Zdub is said to have gained its name from the sound of a shotgun shutter when it’s recharged, is perhaps the only Moldovan band with international clout.

In fact, few bands from the former Soviet Union can boast such extensive tour schedules in Europe as these Moldovan ethno rockers do. They are also considered one of the best live acts in Eastern Europe.

Few people in the audience would be able to resist dancing to the hot cocktail of Balkan tunes, heavy guitar chords and masterful trumpets, spiced with the energy of live performance. In addition, you are sure to learn some Moldovan, as singing along to Zdob si Zdub’s Eurovision hit Boonika Bate Doba is a must.

Zdob si Zdub. Sullivan Room. May 18. 8 p.m. Hr 120-250
