Austrian pop-star Thomas Neuwirth, who performs as the well-known drag queen Conchita Wurst, appeared at the Music Station in Tokyo in a grey dress made by Ukrainian fashion designer Lara Quint.

This dress was selected by the singer’s stylist Thomas Reinberger (he calls himself the “Head of Dressing for Conchita”), who suggested that he wear it with a white shirt. Noble grey color suits Whurst, he says, while the shirt with rolled up sleeves underlines the idea of gender discomfort.

Before giving a concert in Tokyo, and wearing the outfit, the singer posed for photos, which then were posted to Reinberger and Lara Quint’s respective accounts on Instagram and Facebook.

Fans were amazed by her stage look at the concert in Japan. “What a fantastic playful and beautiful dress (worn by) Conchita,” one user named Charlotte Klinck commented on July 12 under the collage on Wurst’s official Facebook page.

“You [Conchita] look like a sweet candy,” another user Marta Porcarelli added.

Wurst won the Eurovision song contest in Copenhagen as Austrian’s entrant in in May 2014. After winning the contest, the global media spotlight shined on her, mostly because of her controversial appearance, which includes a strange combination of women’s make up, dress and a luxuriant black beard.

The fame helps her publicly stand against traditional gender roles in modern society.
