You're reading: What a good suit should look like

A good suit is worth a month’s salary, or even more. At least it is according to British designer and writer Richard Anderson of Savile Row Bespoke Association. An owner of a tailoring house in London, Anderson gave a master class to Ukrainian tailors in Kyiv on Nov. 21 and shared some tips on what a perfect suit must be like.Anderson came to Kyiv invited by the Indposhiv, a local atelier specializing in the handmade suits, to present the Indposhiv’s latest product B1, a handmade bespoke suit.

Anderson’s London atelier has George Michael, Bryan Ferry, and even the King of Spain Huan Karlos I among its clients, though most of the clients, Anderson says, prefer to remain confidential. To get a hold of a suit produced by Anderson one would need to come to London, steal from 50 to 70 hours of a tailor’s time, have up to six fittings and spend 4,500-5,000 pounds. In addition, the wait for such a suit is six to eight weeks.

In Kyiv’s Indposhiv it’s a bit easier and cheaper. The atelier takes $2,500, which is almost twice more than the atelier’s normal price tag, for similar B1 suits and demands two or three fittings, according to the atelier’s owner Kateryna Vozianova. For the high price Vozianova promises the long life of the suit, comfortable wearing and a sense of individuality.

When it comes to style tips, Anderson praises the British business style, which is “somewhere between American free cut and slinky Italian clothes.”
