Probably the most daring, bold and anti-pop Russian music star, Sergei Shnurov a.k.a. Shnur, disappointed his fans last year when he disbanded Leningrad – the band he fronted and with which he was primarily associated with. Soon, however, he presented to the public his new project, Rubl. Rubl’s music turned out to be rough guitar rock and hardcore with lyrics full of foul language (common for Shnur) and social satire.

Yevhen Petrov’s watercolor paintings from the “Soldiers, Animals, Children” resemble scenes from an action movie, set in some exotic land with palms, elephants, monkeys and pandas. The exotic stands side by side with household animals and children. In his works, Petrov clashes children’s innocence with death and violence, though he does so in an ironic way. In fact, irony and infantilism were already visible in one of his previous projects, in which he brutally ridiculed the style of a famous Ukrainian female artist famous for painting angelic toy-like children. The animal theme, on the other hand, prevailed in his other exhibition, “Aquapark.”
