The classical Greek story “Daphnis and Chloe” by Longus will come alive in a modern ballet performance in Kyiv.

The tale tells a romantic story about young man Daphnis and woman Chloe who are abandoned by their parents.

They are raised as shepherds on the Greek island Lesbos and fall in love as they grow up together. After various trials, Daphnis and Chloe reunite with their families and get married.

French choreographer, writer and filmmaker Jean-Claude Gallotta was inspired to reintroduce the classic story in a modern arrangement.

The ballet is full of sharp movements, clean lines, and moments of unbridled yet gracefully expressed passion. The dance is stripped to only essential movements and decorations.

Gallotta trained in fine arts in his native French city Grenoble. His choreography often combines modern and classical ballet.
